Inside the CEO is Back – Coming January

Inside the CEO is a six-session executive development program for recently appointed or aspiring nonprofit CEOs. The Chief Professional, whether called CEO, Executive Director or otherwise, is the most important factor in the success of human service organizations.

New CEOs are often surprised and challenged by how different the job of a CEO is from their prior management roles. They need proficiency in strategy, governance and fundraising, areas in which they may have previously had minimal engagement. They must learn new patterns of communication, relationship building, decision-making and problem solving, and all while dealing with the day-to-day demands of a human service organization. To increase the likelihood of success, aspiring CEOs need training, before they take the job.

This is the fifth time “Inside the CEO” is being offered. Over the course of six full-day sessions spanning four months, aspiring or new CEOs will develop the knowledge, skills and critical perspectives that enable them to lead, manage and problem-solve through the lens of the CEO. Using a highly interactive, small cohort model, we explore the CEO role in organizational strategy, board governance, talent development, financial management and fundraising. One day will be spent with an organizational psychologist, built around the DiSC personality assessment, and applying insights gained to managing people, teams and conflict. Participants receive one hour of individual coaching. Pedagogy includes pre-session readings, case studies, videos, class discussions, breakouts and reflective journaling. Participants are matched with a Peer Learning Parter and identify a personal development goal. The Instructor is Barry Rosenberg, MSW, Professor of Practice at Washington University and Director of the Center for Human Service Leadership.

Participation is free for employees of Delmar DivINe tenants. Please only apply if you plan to attend all sessions. Space is limited. Admission is at the discretion of the Instructor. Application deadline is November 15. Full information and application process is available on the Brown School Professional Development website.
